What Do I Need To Know For Simulation Session 1?

Here are some quick facts to answer commonly asked questions about Sim #1:

  • Currently all Simulation sessions are offered by Zoom only (prior to COVID-19 these were offered in-class only).
  • There are two choices for scheduling:
    • Weekdays: Monday to Friday, 9:00 am to 5:00 pm, with the exam written on Friday from 3:00pm to 6:00pm.
    • Weekends: Two-and-a-half weekends (Saturdays and Sundays), 9:00 am to 5:00 pm, with the exam written on the last day from 3:00pm to 6:00 pm.
  • Humber usually sends Simulation details the week before your Simulation session is set to start. That will include a document outlining how it works, and required tasks to prepare for the Zoom session. You will then also be able to access the course materials for downloading/printing. These are obtained by accessing the course from your learner portal and then choosing the References tab.
  • This simulation encourages you to apply skills learned in Courses 1, 2 and 3 to real-world situations and includes many role-play activities in small groups.
  • During the Zoom sessions you will spend your time between the full class Zoom and various breakout rooms for the group role play activities. The instructor will assign the groups and you are automatically connected to the group to complete the task. The groups will change regularly, so you will have the opportunity to meet several others in the class.
  • Class size is small (20–25) and there will be two facilitators to keep everything running smoothly and on time.
  • Facilitators will set 'housekeeping' rules so you know what to expect each day. Typically lunch breaks are 12–1 and there will be a 15 minute break in the morning and the afternoon. There are opportunities to step away from the group at other times (e.g., a quick bathroom break or to answer a phone), but keep in mind that Sim tasks require active participation and role play tasks cannot be completed properly if someone is missing from the group temporarily.
  • Plan for full days and contribute/participate as much as possible.
  • Simulation sessions require full attendance and active participation.
  • Access the Humber College Learner Portal to download all necessary documents in advance. Printing these documents is not required, but may be helpful if you will be accessing the session from a small screen. You will need to use both the Participant Workbook and the Forms Booklet on each day.
  • Read the Orientation document in advance.
  • The Participant Workbook for each day is covered and completed as part of the Zoom session. You can read these in advance to be extra prepared, but that is not required.
  • The exam is entirely multiple choice, with a heavier concentration of  scenario-based questions, which require you to consider a real-world scenario and make the appropriate choice. As with other Humber College real estate exams the minimum passing grade is 75%.
